Privacy policy

Opening Puzzles has no accounts, no sign-up and no forms. This page explains what is stored when you use the site and which third parties are involved.

Your progress stays in your browser

The puzzles you have solved, your daily goal and your streak are saved in your browser's local storage so they survive a page reload. This data never leaves your device and is not sent to us. Clearing your browser's site data removes it.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used, so we know which openings to write studies for. Google Analytics sets cookies and receives your IP address, browser type and the pages you view. We do not send Google any information that identifies you by name. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Advertising

The site is free and paid for by ads served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info. More detail is in Google's advertising policy.

Consent in the EEA, UK and Switzerland

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, a consent message from Google's consent management platform asks for your choice before advertising cookies are used. You can change that choice at any time through the privacy link the message leaves on the page. If you decline, you may still see non-personalised ads.

Hosting

The site is served as static files through Amazon Web Services (CloudFront). Like any web server, it receives your IP address in order to deliver the pages; we do not use it to identify you.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you may ask what personal data we hold about you and ask for it to be deleted. Because the site has no accounts, we hold no personal data beyond what Google Analytics and Google AdSense process on their side; you can control those through the links above. For any privacy question, email info@openingpuzzles.com. See also the contact page.
